BIMA Digital Day at Lenzie Academy
Challenging the next generation to enter the digital industry.
The only digital initiative of its kind, BIMA Digital Day gives 13-16 year olds an insight into the world of digital. As part of the day, Dog went to Lenzie Academy to help their students complete one of three sponsored challenges for a chance to be crowned BIMA Digital Day champions – winning £500 cash for their school plus a host of other prizes.
The challenges included far-reaching briefs from Micro:Bit to remove plastic from the oceans, from Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Association to increase usage and functionality of the myWimbledon app, as well as EMAP who wanted to encourage students to create a campaign that would get them inspired about a career in digital.
BIMA Digital Day is designed around a normal school day. In the morning, Dog gave a brief introduction into our own world of work and provided some insight into the breadth of careers available in digital. We then tasked students with undertaking an initial research phase on their specific challenge, before they moved on to design and concepting in the afternoon. Throughout the day, we made sure each team had set check-ins to describe their process, share their progress and align their ideas with the brief. Of course, our Dog representatives gave each team expert advice and insight on how to best channel their efforts to reach a solid conclusion.
After an intensive day, each team produced ideas and work that we deemed worthy of consideration by the BIMA judges. We’ll discover the national winners in January 2020, so a huge good luck to Lenzie Academy.
